Children should be dropped off according to the Schematic which was included in your Back-to-School letter and is also in the Parent/Student Handbook. Teacher supervision begins at 7:50 A.M. Furthermore, when the bell is rung at 8:00 A.M. for the children to get on line, parents are to leave the parking lot. This is not the time to approach the teacher with a problem as he/she must attend to his/her class.
Tardiness
School hours are from 8:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. A student is considered late once the second bell has rung at 8:10 A.M. Tardy students must stop by the main office before reporting to class. Tardiness disrupts the learning process.
Early Release
Students who become ill or submit a written request from a parent for an early release from school for a justifiable reason will be released only after the parent or authorized person has signed the Official Release Book in the school office. At no time will be student be permitted to leave the school building alone. Students who are excused from school for a limited time must report to the school office prior to re-entering the classroom.
Dismissal
When the bell is rung at 3:00 P.M., parents are to be in their cars to receive their children when they arrive. Except for the Pre-K carpool line, parking on New Street is not permitted as this disrupts the flow of traffic exiting the North Parking lot.
School Closing
The decision to close school or have a delayed opening due to snow or an emergency is left to the discretion of the Principal in consultation with local authorities. Ordinarily when there is a delayed opening, classes begin at 10:00 A.M. Parents will be notified by a telephone call from an automated phone service. Therefore, it is most important to keep phone numbers current in the School Directory. TV Channel 12 will also include Our Lady of Mount Carmel School’s status in their announcements.
