Our Extra Curricular Activities
Our students are encouraged to participate in extra-curricular activities as an expression of their talents. OLMC School offers a variety of activities that help the students to develop their writing, leadership, social, musical and recreational abilities. These activities include Yearbook, Student Council, Debate Club, Shakespeare Club, Math Counts, Cooking Club, Sports Clinic, the school newspaper, Book Club, Science Club, school concerts, The Talent Show, basketball (boys and girls), track, Scouting, liturgical choir/show choir, cultural programs, field trips and altar serving. Each class or club is one hour in length and runs for 8 to 10 weeks. (COOP classes are held in both Math and Language Arts for several weeks prior to the exam. These classes are offered for a nominal fee).
Altar Servers
Students in grades 5 through 8 who are members of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish are invited to begin their ministry of service as Altar Servers
Basketball
A basketball program is available to all parishioners in grades 3 to 8. The players are taught the fundamental skills of basketball in a structural team-cohesive environment that emphasizes good sportsmanship. The teams participate in the Inter-scholastic Program of the Northern Valley Parochial Basketball League.
Cheerleading
Students from grades 4 to 8 may participate in the program. The younger girls form the Junior Varsity and the experienced cheerleaders form the Varsity. The cheerleaders support the Parish teams at their games and participate in cheerleading competitions.
Children’s Choir
Students in grades 3 through 8 are eligible to participate in Choir. Rehearsals will be on Thursdays from 3:15 to 4:15
Scouting
Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops for all levels are sponsored by the Parish. Older boys and girls participate in town-wide troops.
Track and Field (boys+girls)
In the spring, students of all ages (Kindergarten through Grade 8) can compete in running, jumping and throwing events at three parochial track meets. Technique, training and proper warm-ups are emphasized in practices. O.L.M.C. has consistently placed in the top three teams in the county.
