Health & Wellness: (Grades K-8th) & Study Skills: (Grades 6th-8th)

This class will meet once a week in the students homeroom.  For those students in Kindergarten-2nd Gr., topics such as proper nutrition, health and exercise will be covered.  In grades 3-5, the "Health & Wellness textbook" (MacMillan/McGraw-Hill) will be used.  Topics to be covered will include, proper health strategies, nutrition, excercise, and personal saftey.  The middle school students (Gr. 6-8) will have one trimester of Health & Wellness & one trimester of Study Skills.
Every week, a "healthrelated/"study-
skills-related" article or topic will be discussed and notes are to be taken.  An weekly assignment of either a handwritten or typed 1-2 page paper answering questions given during class and/or summarizing the article/topics discussed during class is due the following week the class meets.  Any "late papers" will be graded as such and points will be taken off accordingly.  The purpose of these weekly writing assignments is to "combine" what is being taught/discussed in the subjects of Phys. Ed., Health & Wellness and Study Skills.  Any student has the opportunity to earn extra credit by finding thier own "health-related or study skills-related article from the newspaper, magazine, or internet.  If this article is deemed "appropiate", it may be used during class and used for assignment.  The students grade for this class is based on class participation and weekly writing assignments.
