CONFIRMATION PROGRAM
While our young people may already be part of the Eucharistic community, the Sacrament of Confirmation provides an opportunity to enter more fully into the life of that community. Confirmation affects not only the individual, but the parish community as a whole.
The Sacraments are celebrations of the parish faith community. The immediate preparation period of catechesis is parish-based and not a school-based preparation. This preparation involves candidates who are in high school, members of the parish community, and attend either a Catholic, private or public high school. The candidates for the Sacrament of Confirmation must complete a program of continuous and sequential religious instruction in a Catholic school or a parish program of religious education in grades 1 through 8.
At the conclusion of eighth grade and before beginning the immediate preparation for the Sacrament, candidates complete the following requirements:
1. complete a minimum of 40 or more hours of community service before reception of the Sacrament.
2. successfully complete the testing on their faith
3. attend an interview with a parish staff person
4. candidates must attend all preparation sessions and a retreat day for the sacrament.
All preparation sessions will take place within the context of the parish which will stress the attitudinal, experiential and doctrinal dimensions of faith development. More information will be shared at the preparation meeting with parents and candidates.
